  2. Improve access to a choice of evidence-based psychological treatments as this has been demonstrated to be cost-effective

Emotional wellbeing can be enhanced by knowledge of basic evidence-based strategies – ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’: inexpensive local initiatives can improve health through self-help and community support and reduce costs to health and social care.

Psychological treatments are valued by service users, have demonstrable effectiveness and, even with modest cost assumptions, appear to reduce high cost care in people with mental health problems.
