Understand which social factors affect mental health and wellbeing

Questions to consider and actions to undertake:

  • Consider how many people are: living in poverty; unemployed; socially isolated; homeless; alcoholics or substance misusers; have chronic painful conditions; have learning disabilities.
  • Consider how many children are: in care; attend school infrequently; have parents who are mentally ill; have parents who are in prison.
  • Write a public mental health strategy with your local health and wellbeing board, to help people cope with challenges, uncertainty and conflict in their lives.
